Why we advance Menstruation health and wellness
The period positivity we promote gives people the power to end the stigma associated with menstruation. We seek to normalize this natural bodily function through transparent discussion, guidance, and resource access.

Spriha Society believes that menstruation is vital for health, but many menstruators, especially in underdeveloped countries, struggle to access necessary care due to societal stigma and biases. We focus on raising awareness through programs in schools, tackling issues like illiteracy and lack of knowledge. With 58% of young Indian women using sanitary pads, we aim to promote period positivity and support everyone in understanding and embracing menstrual health.

What is menstruation, and why does it happen?Menstruation is a natural biological process where the uterus sheds its lining (endometrium) through the vagina, typically lasting 3–7 days. It’s part of the menstrual cycle (avg. 28 days), which prepares the body for potential pregnancy: Follicular Phase: Hormones like estrogen thicken the uterine lining to support a fertilized egg. Ovulation: An egg is released from the ovaries (around day 14). Luteal Phase: Progesterone maintains the uterine lining. If pregnancy doesn’t occur, hormone levels drop, triggering menstruation. This cycle is healthy and universal for people with uteruses, starting at puberty (age 9–16) and ending at menopause (~age 45–55). At Spriha Society, we normalize this process through education to combat myths like menstruation being “dirty” or “shameful.”
